The study, conducted in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, covered 809 women in affluent SEC A households, ranging in age from 18 years to 50 years.

The study has been commissioned by Kaya Limited., India’s foremost chain of skin care clinics.

It uncovers the importance, today’s woman gives to beauty and grooming, her ready adoption of new trends and her desire for the best, regardless of price. Revealing that the modern Indian woman is more focused, more open and more assertive in her pursuit of beauty than ever before.

With regard to hair removal, for instance, there was a high level of dissatisfaction with current methods like waxing, shaving and creams. Despite 99% of women in Mumbai and Delhi, 87% in Kolkata and 69% in Chennai going to professional salons for hair removal, the majority of them felt they did not achieve the desired result.

Concerns about salon hygiene, the pain of waxing and the unsatisfactory results of shaving and creams, have driven more and more of them to hair removal technology, once considered the exclusive preserve of models and actresses.

The shift is most perceptible in Mumbai, with 94% of Mumbai women surveyed feeling that technology is less time-consuming, and 85% of them feeling it is cost-effective, in the long run.
